It's really amazing what a week long break can do for you. Granted, it wasn't a complete vacation, but man did it feel nice. I wasted many sleepless nights working on a programming assignment and I'm still empty handed. Because of my lack of sleep, I'm now sick with a cold. I think that my first three or four nights home I wasn't in bed before four ever and there was at least one night where I went to bed at 7:00 A.M. It was pretty ridiculous. I still woke up at a reasonable 11:00 o'clock too. Not too shabby. But it took a toll on my body and now I have to take it easy and recuperate.
Thanksgiving was great though. It was just my parents, my sister and I, but it was still a lot of fun. I watched a lot of football with my dad and ate lots of turkey and pie and other goodies. It was delicious. I didn't really touch any of my homework, except for that programming assignment. I have a geology energy research paper due pretty soon that we were encouraged to start during the break, but I didn't. :) good for me.
It was great to spend time with my little sister though. I don't get to see her so much, so the holidays are always special. We're pretty close, really, so it's rought sometimes to not see her as much. We didn't get to hang out as much as I'd like since we were both juggling times to hang out with our friends too. It just worked out that way. It was great to play with her when i could though.
But now all those glorious days are finished and it's back to the monotonous drudgery of school... i' swear I'd skip classes tomorrow if it wasn't so important. Oh well. If this is what it takes to keep me out of Arby's for the rest of my life, I'm definitley willing. Well, 'til I can't sleep again...
A Much Needed Break Full Of Gluttony!
The Calm Before The Storm
Well, it's been a while. Not a whole lot has happened, but I'll bring you up to speed. I figured out a few more of the trigonometry problems that were assigned to me this weekend. I turned it in today and got a 21 out of 24, so not too bad. It brought me up to a 89.2% or so in the class. I forget the exact decimal value, but borderline A-.
I got my last calculus test back too. I didn't do so good on it, as i had guessed after sitting in the testing center for over 2 hours. But I scraped away with an 88% somehow. most of my mistakes were just stupid ones that cost me a point or two for a problem. I just had so many of them. Hopefully I'll focus better for the next one.
Michelle and I went to Idaho Falls on saturday. I showed her my mission pictures and then we shopped for a pair of pants. After that we went to Peache's and played with a blue healer they were selling there. We then went to Fiesta Ole to eat. It was pretty cheap and good. We both got full of it anyways. After eating, we raced back to Rexburg to make it to the saturday session of stake conference.
Alright, I'm tired. The Insomnia is wearing off... I'm going to bed. Later!
I HATE TRIG!!!
Overall today was pretty good really... just my trig sucks. I had 2 tests today and got a 94% on the Geology one and a 100% on the Religion one. I also had to go to this Geology seminar thing about crinoids or something like that. They're basically these weird starfish or sea urchin type creatures that have like a billion different types of species. Anyways, i fell asleep for a good part of it, but I was able to get my page of notes done. Now I just have to go to one more thing like that and I just have class time left.
Then, I met with my trigonometry tutor. We spent an hour working problems similar to the ones on my exam. Guess what... he couldn't figure them out either. It's ridiculous. I'm pretty much sick of that class. If a tutor can't even help me, I don't know what to do. I think I'll talk to my professor when I go to turn in my exam. I have no idea what to do on those other problems. I might start getting help from a friend of mine in the class too. I don't know, we'll see.
The rest of the night I spent with Michelle. We got arctic circle for dinner and then we rented Men in Black and watched it. That was pretty good. My back is sore from hockey the other night and it starts to hurt when I sit while leaning back for a while. She gave me a massage. It helps, but then it just comes back. Well, I think I'm going to go to bed now. I'm tired and I have class in the morning. see ya!
Trigosucketry
So I spent yesterday making sure I had all my trigonometry stuff done and I show up to class today, ready and hopeful about my grade on the assignment. We start class and begin correcting, and I realize i got off on my counting and did 90% of the assignment with the wrong problems. It sucked!!!! on top of that, out of the few that I did, i missed half of them. Not a good sign. I pleaded with my instructor and he's given me five days to redo the assignment and turn it in for full credit. Nice guy. He's fair.
I spent the rest of my free time today fixing all my errors. Luckily, I got almost all of it done. I still don't understand some key concepts though, so I've scheduled a meeting with a tutor on Thursday to fix things.
After that, I got to go out with my parents and Michelle to get some ice cream. That was a lot of fun and a good stress reliever considering the prior events. I had a floor hockey game tonight too after we got ice cream. We lost... their goalie was amazing and ours... well... wasn't. We out played them and had at least 2X the amount of shots they did, but we still lost. I don't even remember the score. We put up a good fight until the second half of the second half... oh well. It was fun. I volunteered to play goalie next time, so we'll see what happens. hopefully I can be a bit better at it.
Well, i have to study for a religion and geology test that I have to take on Thursday... Thursday is going to be a busy day. And tomorrow... I hate being in class form 10:00 - 5:15 every wednesday. Well, better hit the books. 'til tomorrow...
Cruel Professors
Well, this week has started off with some major challenges. yay... I'm so excited... I think my college professors are united in some kind of organization dedicated to making students lives' as hard as possible. I like to call it the League of Misery. I have three tests this week, and two of them are on the exact same day. That has to take some kind of wicked collaboration, doesn't it? Oh well... I just hope I can keep my grades up and keep my scholarship.
I have to look for classes to register for next semester too. I've been trying to figure out what classes i should be taking by using the guidlines on the schools website, but they don't seem to say the same things. I have somewhere around 4 classes that are required according to one source, and not required according to another... it's confusing the crap out of me. Oh well. I should probably just go talk to my adviser, but I don't really want to. I don't have time to right now anyways. I'll just tough it out for now I guess.
Things seem to be going alright so far. I checked the requirements of the academic scholarship and realized that the strictness of the requirements decreases with students status... so, juniors don't have to have such a ridiculous GPA to keep their scholarships. I've been really worried about losing mine after this semester, but after checking this, I should be just fine. I don't have to keep a ridiculous 3.900 to keep my scholarship for next semester, because I'll be a junior!
Yes! I only have to keep a 3.850 Sooo much better... a lot more realistic, especially for someone in my situtation. Someone please remind me no to take 16 credits with 8 of them being math... Trigonometry and Calculus suck! oh well... Speaking of math, i still have one more problem to do on my Trig homework, so I better stop this writing and get it done. Shouldn't take me long... but it's getting close to 2:30 A.M. Yeah, I better get busy.
